Exodus Part 1: Liberation from Bondage
Bible Study With Madelon Maupin
October 6-10, 2022
Exodus, the second book of the Pentateuch, gets its name from the Greek word for "departure," because its central theme is the departure of the Israelites from Egypt, and it is a continuation from where the Book of Genesis leaves off. It is fundamental for Christian moral teachings.
“And there was a Cry in Egypt”, Arthur Hacker (1858-1919)
Dates: October 6 – 10, 2022
Location: Cedars Camps, near Lebanon MO
This in-depth Bible Study will be Exodus, Part I: Liberation from Bondage and it will focus on chapters 1-19. Exodus continues the mega themes introduced in Genesis. These include, as a small reference example, God's covenant with Abraham, Israel acting as the special community to be God’s witness in the world, and of the promise of deliverance and salvation this implies, and the many near misses when this promise seems so at risk.
The first nineteen chapters of Exodus act as a prologue for the laws and commandments to come, looking back at God’s deliverance of His people from Egyptian slavery.
Note: The last half of Exodus (chapters 20-40) is about how the people respond to this deliverance and God’s expectations for His people. This will all be covered in another Bible study titled Exodus Part II: The Law (chapters 20-40) and will be delivered LIVE in 2023.
