It's the Bible Study Theme For 2026!

Together with the BibleRoads Community, we'll explore two key areas of refuge:

Egypt. Yes, Egypt, ... as an actual physical sanctuary for these biblical figures: Jacob, Joseph, Jeremiah, and Jesus. As part of the study, we will dive into the Scripture to learn more of Egypt's importance to Christianity, and then explore its geography, history, politics, and even its archaeology (things you would not expect and in ways you wouldn't anticipate).
The book of Psalms. It's a timeless spiritual refuge offering hope, forgiveness, and strength.

Live Study Webinars are held on the 2^nd Tuesday of each month.

Presentations for Egypt will be given by Madelon Maupin, MTS, and she will be accompanied by a special guest presenter, Aziz Megeed, an Egyptian Biblical Archaeologist.

January 13th.

Biblical Patriarchs and the Nile Delta, Introduction to Egypt

“Biblical Patriarchs and the Nile Delta, Introduction to Egypt.” Here is the introduction to the biblical, archaeological, historical, and geographical story of Israel and Egypt through the centuries. The stories of Abraham and Jacob are explored in their relationship to Egypt, offering the first evidence of Egypt as a refuge for ancient Israel.

February 10th.

The Joseph story (Genesis 37-50) is the longest narrative in the Hebrew scriptures, serving a crucial function in the overall storyline of the Israelites. Explaining how the descendants of Jacob (Israel) came to live in Egypt, it sets the stage for the critical period of enslavement and freedom. You’ll see the latest archaeological evidence for this Hebrew presence as well as explore one of the Bible’s great accounts of suffering and redemption.

March 10th.

The nation-changing Journey from Refuge to Freedom

Here is one of mankind’s most heart-wrenching yet thrilling stories of freedom. We’ll look at the way Moses found refuge in Pharaoh’s court growing up and the long journey of freedom for his people that he led.

April 14th.

Sanctuary in Exile: Finding Refuge on Foreign Soil

Elephantine Island, Nile, Egypt

Jeremiah, the prophet, spent his final years in Egypt. We will examine the circumstances that brought him there, what he learned and wrote, and the themes related to the Babylonian crisis as well as his time on Elephantine Island in Egypt. The narrative will cover the biblical story of the writing of both Jeremiah and Lamentations, along with the archaeological and geographical story of an island in the Nile that held significance for Jeremiah and his successors.

May 12th.

Trust Without Borders: Faith on the Run

The Holy Family takes the last significant step of refuge for the Jews as recorded in Scripture, but the most important step for Christians, fleeing King Herod’s kill order of male children, just as the earlier Pharaoh had done. Archaeological evidence shows the route they took and the churches left behind to commemorate that journey of refuge before returning to Roman Palestine to fulfill Jesus’ ministry. This brings Egypt and its status as Israel’s refuge into the New Testament period, where the story of Mark the Evangel and the Coptic Christians begins to unfold.

Psalms

The second half of The Study of Refuge focuses on the Psalter.

There is no narrative, but poetry and prose that are filled with expressions of joy, lament, fear, and forgiveness that cover the spectrum of human emotion.

The Psalms explore many aspects of God’s nature, especially in creation and salvation.

The Lord reigns at creation and does so with the deepest love for His creation, being known by His creation as their Shepherd, Rock, Redeemer, and many other titles that show God’s care and provision.

We’ll explore the five books that make up the Psalter,

following Israel’s history from Monarchy through Exile to Restoration.

June 9th.

Introduction to the Psalter, including hymns of praise, concern, and protection.

The oldest complete Book of Psalms in Coptic after restoration. Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities

We’ll explore their overall themes, authorship, organizational structure, history, and different types of Psalms. The goal is to understand the Psalms well enough to navigate them with confidence, like following a roadmap to find what you're looking for.

July 14th.

Exploring Book 1 (Psalms 1 – 41)

Exploring Book 1 (Psalms 1 – 41), we see trust in God primarily through David's prayers. This is the period of the United Monarchy, when David and Solomon reigned, as is Book 2. These Psalms also include individual laments, born of personal crises, that will contrast later with community hymns of joy.

August 11th.

Exploring Book 2 (Psalms 42–72)

Exploring Book 2 (Psalms 42–72), we learn about the community's laments and the beginning of the “Sons of Korah” Psalms, also written during the time of the united monarchy but indicating a shift away from just David’s Psalms. Organized by their name for God, we’ll see how various authors perceived God and the coming of the Messiah’s kingdom.

September 8th.

Exploring Book 3 (Psalms 73 - 89)

Exploring Book 3 (Psalms 73 - 89), this shortest collection of Psalms includes the Asaph Psalms, which seek to subordinate fear to praise God and to find hope. This period marks the beginning of the monarchy's collapse and the shift from individual to community Psalms. (Pic in DB)

October 14th.

Exploring Book 4 (Psalms 90 – 106)

Exploring Book 4 (Psalms 90 – 106) reveals the prayers during the Exile when Israel will be gathered back together from the nations from which it was scattered. Filled with Psalms of praise, we discover Thanksgiving Psalms based on God’s mercy and love. (Picture in DB – Oct 13 2026 webinar)

November 10th.

Book 5 (Psalms 107 - 150)

Book 5 (Psalms 107 - 150) expresses the tremendous gratitude to God after the Exile in Babylonia for gathering the redeemed from all the corners of the world. The Ascent Psalms are introduced and tell of the pilgrims’ return to Zion, singing praise for the festivals that show a restored Israel.

Madelon Maupin, MTS

...grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma and is a graduate of Principia College where she majored in Biblical Studies. She spent several decades in business, first starting three business newspapers, Madelon then managed a national career transition firm and eventually had her own leadership consulting firm for 20 years in Los Angeles.

In 2004 Madelon returned to graduate school while maintaining her consulting business, and obtained a Masters in Theological Studies degree with a focus on the Bible. This was from San Francisco Theological Seminary, graduating in 2008.

She loves sharing the Bible and has been an active speaker throughout the US and also Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and Europe for many years, speaking to churches and non-profit groups. In 2012, Madelon launched BibleRoads, a biblical education company that provides Christian talks, workbooks, online courses, and a membership for spiritual thinkers. She has traveled extensively in the Middle East, lecturing for Princess Cruises, as well as leading her own tours to Biblical lands. Madelon lives in Scottsdale, Arizona.
